What the route feels like

I am not adding a score of my own. Five critics had already filed, and the useful job is to put their numbers and their actual sentences in one place. The praise clusters around the filmed scenes and the puzzle design. The complaints cluster around combat. Gameliner, GameWatcher, and Shacknews each said a version of that, which is more interesting than the average. I could not open the full Noisy Pixel and GameWatcher articles (both returned 403), so their lines below are the sentences Metacritic quoted.

What they wrote

Quotations are the Metacritic excerpts, not full reviews.

  • Noisy Pixel, 90: “not only spectacular FMV sequences, but engrossing tension-fueled combat and thoughtful puzzle design.”
  • Gamer Social Club, 80: “recaptures the forgotten classic feel of the survival horror genre.”
  • Gameliner, 80: “the only things keeping me awake at night were the clunky controls and the huge difficulty spikes in bossfights.”
  • GameWatcher, 75: the game “does less well when it comes to the game’s often-obtuse puzzles and occasionally clumsy combat.”
  • Shacknews, 70: “combat, movement, and a few illogical sequences tarnished the experience.”

How to read the player scores

Steam’s 96% is 195 reviews, which is a launch-week sample, not a settled reputation. PlayStation’s 4.81 is 32 ratings. GOG’s perfect score is two reviews. None of these is an aggregate I would treat as final. This page does not add its own star rating on top of theirs.
